Robert Penn Warren's Politics & the Politics of Robert Penn Warren in the 21st Century

Whether his focus was the historical past or the current moment, whether in expository or critical essays, poetry or fiction, Robert Penn Warren did not shy away from taking up political issues in his writing. We are interested in considering the politics addressed by Warren, including but not limited to:

  • politics and power
  • the politics of democracy
  • the politics of race
  • the politics of gender
  • the politics of poetry
  • the politics of the Academy
  • the politics of literature and/or criticism


and in scholarly and/or pedagogical considerations of the politics of teaching Warren in the 21st century.

We invite abstracts for papers, panels or roundtables addressing any aspect of Robert Penn Warren’s work, but are especially interested in maintaining a focus on the political. For panel proposals, please include panel title, name and affiliation of each presenter, and individual abstracts of 50 – 100 words with paper title. For individual paper proposals, please send paper title and abstract of 50-100 words. For roundtables, please send an abstract of 50-100 words and a brief bio of each speaker.
